The autonomous community of Tuxpan de Bolaños is located in the Municipality of Bolaños, in the State of Jalisco. Tuxpan de Bolaños is 1127 meters above sea level.

There are 1269 inhabitants, 632 men and 637 women. People from outside the State of Jalisco account for 1.58% of the total population. 10.24% of the inhabitants are illiterate (4.11% of the men, and 16.33% of the women). The average school enrolment ratio is 7.12 (8.35 of the men, and 5.99 of the women).

99.53% of the population is indigenous, and 85.66% of the inhabitants speak one of the indigenous languages. 12.61% of the population speaks one of the indigenous languages, but not Spanish.

18.60% of the inhabitants (age 12 and older) are economically active (24.84% of the men, and 12.40% of the women).
